Weston, FL - The Lightning turned on its effectiveness when it was needed most.
Cypress Bay eliminated a two-run deficit when they notched a home run in the fifth inning. They ultimately took the lead for good with a solo home run by Rafael Gonzalez in the 6th inning. The long ball was the start of a three-run inning that propelled Cypress Bay to a 6-3 win at home over Taravella in a Class 6A regional quarterfinal game Tuesday.
Cypress Bay (22-6) will host Douglas in a regional semifinal game Friday.
Rudy Lavecchia went deep to right center field for the game tying home run. Gonzalez's blast matched Rudy Lavecchia's as he also went to deep right center. Rudy lavecchia went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's. Rudy Lavecchia said that the right center field is a fantastic place to hit balls deep in the dark."The wind is very crucial in this situation," Rudy Lavecchia said.
Rudy Lavecchia wasn't done yet though. He added to Cypress Bay lead in the 6th inning with a double that scored Steven Reznyk. Rudy Lavecchia ended up scoring as well when Iggy Sosa notched a single soon after.
