The Baltimore Ravens recuperated from several losses after an overwhelming performance on Sunday as they faced the until-then unbeaten Denver Broncos at home. The Ravens’ offensive system made the game look easy as they dominated the match with a 30-7 victory that proved them, incontrovertibly, the better team.

Baltimore rookie Lardarius Webb was the star of the game, returning a kickoff for 95-yards after halftime to end the Ravens’ three game losing streak. The crushing victory against Denver was an incredible surprise; the Broncos have proven solid thus far in the season, going unbeaten in the first six games of the season and aiming for 7-0, a feat not accomplished in over a decade.

Rookie coach Josh McDaniels was looking back to the last 7-0 season, in 1998. And with players like Eddie Royal, one of the best kick returners of the league, in key positions on the team, the game against Baltimore should have been closer.

“Anytime you have a game like this, it forces you to look in a mirror,” Coach McDaniels said. “Hopefully we can find out just as much about one another … through the adversity of a loss as you can through six wins.”

The first half of the game was a combination of smacks and pushes between both teams, leading to a small 6-0 difference in favor of Baltimore by halftime. However, the Ravens, who had managed to disconcert the Denver team with a great defense and a smooth offensive system, stepped all over the Broncos in the second half. They started quickly and never looked back.

The team almost eliminated Eddie Royal from the game and became the first to rush more than 100 yards against the Broncos this season.

“We know we’re capable of doing this kind of thing,” said the Ravens’ quarterback, Joe Flacco. “We had a chance in the other games. Today we finished. That’s why we won.”

Denver would only score once in the game, during the second half. The team was down 13-0, and finally responded with an 86-yard push that, combined with a few Baltimore penalties, made for 44 yards. Knowshon Moreno was able to make a 1-yard touchdown run, adding Denver’s only points to the scoreboard for the entire game.

But the Ravens wouldn’t take even that lying down. They responded with a field goal that brought the score to 16-7. Flacco then threw a 20-yard pass to Derrick Mason with just over 13 minutes left and pushed the lead higher, to 23-7.

Ray Rice captured the finals points of the moment. With less than 2 minutes left on the clock, Rice made a 7-yard touchdown to end the game.

Now the Ravens are now trying to focus on next week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals; they will try to maintain the rhythm that they had against Denver and accomplish another sore-needed victory after their slow start this season.

The Broncos will try to get back on track; they face the 2008 defending champions, the Pittsburg Steelers, on Monday, November 9th.
