Google Dashboard Launched To Provide Info On Online Activities

Google has launched a new service designed to show exactly how much the search giant knows about its users' daily online activities, SEO specialists may be interested to know.

The search engine giant announced the launch of Google Dashboard on its official blog, saying that the service was designed to provide users with "greater transparency and control" over their own data.

Google Dashboard displays a summary of data collected from a specified Google account, ranging from search queries and emails to video usage on YouTube.

By logging into their Google account, users retrieve a master list with the items on each particular services such as calendars, blogs and Gmail.

The dashboard lists some of the information users associate with Google services, such as their email address, number of contacts, the number of conversations in their Gmail inbox and the most recent entries from their web history.

However some critics raised concerns about privacy.

"If Google really wanted to give users control over their privacy it would give consumers the ability to be anonymous from the company and its advertisers in crucial areas such as search data and online behaviour," said John M Simpson of the advocacy group Consumer Watchdog.
